TECHNICAL DETAILS

Public IPv4

A public IPv4 address lets outside devices reach services on your connection. CGNAT can prevent ordinary inbound access.

Port forwarding

Allows selected inbound traffic through the router to a service on your home network.

CGNAT

Carrier-grade NAT shares public IPv4 addresses between customers. Ordinary inbound port forwarding normally will not work through it.

Static public IPv4

Keeps the same public address. Useful for DNS, VPNs, remote access, mail and services where changing addresses are inconvenient.

IPv6

Modern end-to-end addressing. Useful for direct connectivity, though IPv4 compatibility still matters.

Symmetrical upload

Upload matches download speed. Particularly valuable for hosting files, backups, media and several remote users.

Own router / bridge mode

Gives you control over NAT, firewalling, VPNs, VLANs, DNS and port forwarding instead of relying entirely on the ISP gateway.

Server-use terms

Technical capability is not enough if the residential contract prohibits hosting. IndieIP treats an explicit restriction as a real blocker.

Workaround marker

A brown question mark means self-hosting can work, but only after a specific action such as requesting CGNAT removal or adding a public IP.

Result basis

Local provider evidence means IndieIP has provider records matched to the ZIP. Metro research means the ZIP falls inside a researched master zone. National guidance means local retail availability has not yet been established. None of these replaces an exact-address check with the provider.
